My Favorite Musical

First try participating in one of these, so hopefully I’m doing it right :)

My favorite Musical of all time is

Epics the Musical by Jorge Rivera-Herrans, a concept album that can be found on Spotify and YouTube and probably other platforms, I love it! It’s not a 100% clean, but it’s a really good series!

It’s a retelling of the Odyssey, in which Odysseus king of Ithaca must leave behind his wife and son to fight in a war and now after seven years of war sails across the sea to return to them and the Greek gods themselves seem to make it their mission to keep him away from home. He must question his morality and consider if being a monster is worth seeing his wife once more.

It’s a heartbreaking beautiful story and I love all of the songs.

My favorites are Open Arms, Puppeteer(the beat is sooo good) We’ll Be Fine and I Can’t Help but wonder.

What I love the most I think about Epic the Musical is that it was made (as far as I know) on and through social media platforms just a bunch of people getting together and making something beautiful. That inspires me so much, and so I’m so thankful to Jorge Rivera for showing me that you don’t always need a big studio or tons of people to make something gorgeous. He started off young, and so can I. I love that about this story. I love that it’s gotten so successful too, and I’m so happy for him! But aside from that, I love the beats of all the songs, the fact that they’re hard to sing and that though the story is really sad there’s a lot of humor in the songs and so you can sing almost any song and just have a good time.

If there’s any time I just burst out singing while doing something, it’s probably an Epic the Musical Song and more than likely, it’s either I Can’t Help but Wonder, Luck Runs Out, Puppeteer or Legendary also We’ll be fine…I don’t know why I’m even trying to list specific ones I love them all too much and they’re just all too fun!

So, I’m super grateful to Jorge Rivera-Herrans and Epic the Musical for really impacting my teen years and giving me something to jam to whenever I need a break from thought. :)

This is another slightly unrelated thing but…

I like to write my own songs and my own musicals. I’ve never finished one but I love writing songs that mean something and that have something to do with a story you know? There’s a story usually behind every song I write. Though sometimes I write them just to fool around.

I've never finished a Concept Album but Jorge Rivera makes me want to, so who knows? Maybe at some point I will! Thanks for reading to the end of this post, and I'll try to post again soon! Bye for now Blogger!

P.S. And like check out Jorge Rivera-Herrans he is so cool!!! But I will give the warning again that not all of the Epics songs are clean so they should be listened to by adults first a 100%. If you love the Epics too, I'd love to hear about which songs are your favorites! And who your favorite characters are.

Mine are Telemachus, Polities and Odysseus and Eurylochus and probably also Athena and Calypso.

P.P.S. Why was that P.S. so long?

  1. I love that drawing you did!
And, yes, Jorge is super inspiring! If I had to choose a favorite song from The Epics, it'd probably be "I Can't Help But Wonder".

    1. I love Odysseus' part the best! It sounds almost like a lullaby!

  2. ACK Epic the Musical is SO FUN!! Puppeteer is very catchy. My favorite of the sagas right now is The Underworld and listen to it quite a lot. As for favorite characters, Polities is an absolute dear and Telemachus is ADORABLE. And I agree with Calypso and Athena ("God Games" is wild and I am so here for it).

That's so cool that you write your own musicals! I like coming up with ideas for jukebox musicals, but writing your own songs is a skill I wish I had so keep it up!

    1. Arigato for the compliment! I'm so excited to find another Epic the Musical fan! I love all the Sagas so much, but weirdly I can't say I have a favorite saga because my favorite songs are kind of spaced out! I love every one of Telemachus' songs. Like, when I heard Legendary for the first time and it started I was bopping so hard and just so excited for the boy!

    2. Sorry, I just realized I responded in Japanese when I said Arigatou. It means thank you but you probably guessed. :)

  3. Hi Frankie, it's great to meet you! One of my brothers is interested in Epic the Musical, so I've heard good portions of it through him. I know he especially likes Penelope's ballad "The Challenge."

    1. Konnichiwa! Hello! I love The Challenge too! It took listening to it twice, but the vocals are insane! My brother introduced me to Epic the Musical too, so happy he did because now I'm kind obsessed with it! (If you cannot already tell.) sheepish smile. Anyway, thanks so much for commenting! Out of what you've heard do you have a favorite Epic the Musical song?

    2. Re-listening to a couple of the ones I'd remembered liking, of the ones I've heard I think I would say The Challenge is my favorite...somehow that one in particular just speaks to me and gets me all emotional. I also like Warrior of the Mind. Not for any thematic reasons, just because it's a bop. :P

    3. Yeah, I love a lot of them for the same reason. Either they make me mad emotional, or they just make me wanna dance XD

  4. Wow! I am honored that my musical party was your first-ever blog event! That's pretty cool.

A musical about Odysseus sounds so fascinating. Musicals lend themselves to larger-than-life stories, so why not grab an epic like that for inspiration?

How awesome that you write songs! I can write poetry, but I've never been skilled at writing music to go with them. So I'm impressed :-)

    1. Thanks! What's funny is I've never actually read the real Odyssey, so all I know is Jorge Rivera's version. I don't know how much he changed, but I hear he edited a lot! It kind of makes me want to read the original to find out just what he changed. Writing poetry is really cool! I do both poetry and songs, and actual books though I've never published any and I've hardly finished making a song that actually sounds good(to me at least). I love producing music, like editing it but I can't really play any real instruments. So, it'll be awhile before I feel comfortable enough to share an original creation! thanks so much for the compliment though! And this whole thing has kind of made me consider writing and producing an actual musical, it'd be really fun!

    2. Thanks so much for hosting this party, it's been so much fun and the perfect first blog party for me since I love music so much, so I'm really grateful for this!

    3. I actually haven't read The Odyssey either, only abridged versions. I did read The Illiad years ago, so really need to read The Odyssey one of these days!

I was in my thirties before I got my first book published. I read once that most people need to write about a million words of fiction before they really hit their stride, and that certainly seemed to be accurate for me. And I keep on learning and growing! So keep on working on your writing and your music -- the refusal to give up is the real key to success for most creative people!

Glad this party hit all the right notes for you, so to speak ;-)

    4. Thanks for all the encouragement! It's difficult to communicate the wide smile on my face when I read this, so hopefully you can see it in my typing!
